Chevrolet Cruze – Road Trip Adventure

I feel like road trips are something that every person with a license tries to attempt at least once in their life. Whether it’s a short two-hour drive to a nearby city or town or an eighteen-hour drive to a place you’ve never experienced before, these trips can make memories that can last a lifetime. I recently took a road trip from Toronto to Ottawa. Although only a four-hour drive, I prepared myself with all the necessities needed to turn a drive into a road trip.

It’s imperative that you pick the right person to take on a road trip with you. Keep in mind you will be stuck in the car with this person for a long time. I invited my close friend Sasha Exeter of SoSash.com. She’s a great girl who I knew would make for an awesome road trip partner.

Before hitting the road, I love getting a playlist ready. Sure it’s great to talk for hours on end with your co-pilot, but there comes a time when you must crank the heat, roll down the windows, and blare some Whitney Houston power ballads. This will turn the long monotonous drive into an on-the-road dance party.

I was given the task of experiencing our capital – the city of Ottawa. I have been to Ottawa a few times in my past but never really had the chance to full on explore the city. Needless to say we had a blast. We kicked off the road trip by staying at the beautiful Hotel Le Germain in Toronto. After a great nights sleep, we awoke ready and eager to hit the road. As we arrived in Ottawa, we unpacked our Chevrolet Cruze and loaded our Rimowa luggage into the Arc Hotel. We decided to grab a bite to eat at Restaurant 18. We enjoyed a spectacular meal. Driving can take a lot of a person, so we decided to call it a semi-early night so that we could take full advantage of the weekend.

The next day we got up and much like the eager beavers we are, ran the along the Rideau Canal. Running along such a historic and beautiful scenic area was a very memorable experience.

As the day went on, we got a bit hungry and decided to check out the Byward Market. It is one of Canada’s oldest and largest public markets. We enjoyed some Canadian classic Beavertails. They were delicious and if you have yet to try one of these – then you’re really missing out. Ottawa is a fairly smaller city and this made it easy for us to get around. We went for a walk around the city and snapped a couple photos in front of the iconic parliament buildings.

The next day we went for high tea at the Chateau Laurier. When visiting Ottawa, you must check out this hotel. It is absolutely stunning. After our la-ti-da high tea, we went to the National Gallery of Canada. The architecture of the building was fascinating and the exhibits were wonderful. I really enjoyed the Michel Campeau special exhibit. I also got to see some of Jackson Pollock’s work which was something I really enjoyed.

As soon as we knew it, the weekend had come to an end and it was time to hop in our Chevrolet Cruze and head back to Toronto.

Another important thing about road trips is the vehicle you drive. Chevrolet Canada gave us their brand new 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel. This vehicle was awesome. I loved all of the extra features like the indicators on the side view mirrors. There’s nothing worse than having someone in your blind spot.

I also loved the MyLink feature. I was able to connect my phone to the MyLink colour touchscreen display, giving me access to that playlist I mentioned earlier. I also was able to give voice commands for things like making a call or changing the radio station simply by using the speech recognition option – hands free at its finest!

We never got lost once because we had OnStar to help us navigate our way – another great option to have when heading out on a road trip.

The best thing about this vehicle was the fact that it is diesel. It was extremely efficient getting 4.2L/100 Km on the hiway – better than any non-hybrid in Canada. It also had a lot of pep, which surprised me. I never would’ve imagined we’d have the capability to go from 0-96 km/h in 8.6 seconds. Vroom Vroom!

Thanks to Chevrolet CanadaSasha and I had an amazing time in our nations capital. From our sweet ride to our savory dinners we enjoyed throughout the weekend, all in all it was an extremely successful and fun road trip.
